My name is Jack Silvers and I am a sophomore at Harvard this year. I am part of Service with a Name (SWAN), a 501(c)3 nonprofit and student organization at Harvard College dedicated to catalyzing involvement, careers, and therefore lives, in public service for youth around the country, through mentorship, social engagement, and dynamic, outgoing community building.

As a part of our initiative, we are hosting an engaging and dynamic conference for high schoolers on Harvard University’s campus April 1st-2nd 2023, Future Leaders in Public Service

FLPS is a 2-day conference on Harvard’s campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts for high schoolers who aspire to be our nation’s future leaders in fields of public service, which encompass government, education, justice reform, and the nonprofit sector

High school students are placed in small groups, each led by a current Harvard College student, providing a unique opportunity for mentorship and leadership development. Attendees hone personal goals, experience a glimpse of college life at a top university, and cultivate skills to bring back to their communities and to utilize in their current and future roles as leaders focused on the public good.

This program represents a unique opportunity for students to distinguish themselves and to highlight their true commitment to becoming future leaders in public service.

We are inviting students from across the country to apply for the opportunity to attend FLPS. If you know any students who might be a good fit for the 2023 Future Leaders in Public Service Conference, please nominate them here or have them apply here. We want to be as inclusive as possible, and will be providing some fee waivers to students who cannot afford to attend!

Inspiring Women in Engineering and Medicine

IWEM Workshop - Feb 25, 2023 for HS Females Gr 10-12. NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!

We are very excited to announce an upcoming IWEM workshop on Saturday, Feb 25, 2023, at the Musculoskeletal Institute (MSI) at UConn Health in Farmington, CT.

At the Inspiring Women in Engineering & Medicine (IWEM) workshop, we are committed to exposing young women to the rewarding fields of Medicine and Engineering. In a time where women comprise such a small proportion of the workforce in these fields, IWEM creates an opportunity for women to experience and appreciate what these male-dominated professions entail. Our goal is to inspire hope in these young women, by providing an unparalleled experience into these fields. We strive to recruit high school students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds into our program to equip them with the excitement, knowledge, and mentorship necessary to pursue careers in these fields.

IWEM is a FREE, four-hour, hands-on workshop for high school women who are interested in pursuing careers in Medicine or Engineering.

We are currently seeking applicants for our UConn Health program. Participants should be students who gender-identify as female or nonbinary in grades 10 and up with an expressed interest in science, medicine and/or engineering. We would appreciate if you could please pass this information along to any high school students you may know.

Applicants should fill out our online application starting Jan 30, 2023 and before the Feb 9, 2023 application deadline. The IWEM workshop has limited capacity, so applicants should not delay.

The IWEM application may be accessed directly using the following link: https://www.drcoyner.com/iwem.html

Wilton Public Schools has partnered with Bark for Families in order to bring our parents a series of workshops with information on the trends, “look fors” and strategies for helping your children manage their online presence.

The sessions will provide information about trends in the use of social media by students, risky apps, home contract ideas and tips.  In addition to providing the schools with a filtering service for districts, Bark also provides an app for families as parental controls.  The session is designed as informational on the state of social media and online activities of our youth while also providing an introduction to the Bark for Families app.

There will be a follow-up Webinar for any parent who opts to purchase the Bark for Families app (at a discount) on December 14th.  That workshop will be appropriate to all families.
