Back-to-School Info

Young students doing school work

From the Desk of the Superintendent

August 1, 2023

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,

I hope this finds you well and enjoying a relaxing summer.  We are a little less than a month away from our first day of school on Monday, August 28 and are eagerly anticipating welcoming students back.  While we do not want to rush these wonderful last weeks of summer fun with family and friends, we do want to share some important information with you in advance.

Linked to this post you will find the Wilton Public Schools District Handbook and Students Rights and Responsibilities.  We have again combined the district handbook and student rights and responsibilities guide into one document. This handbook has been posted on our family resources webpage and can be reached from each of the school level pages as well.

In the first section of the handbook you will find general information related to this year’s school opening and also important dates regarding Meet the Teacher, Middlebrook Walkthrough, Freshman and New Student Orientation and Back to School Nights.

Beginning this year the district will use ParentSquare as the notification system for the district.  Parents will be able to receive messages in different ways depending on their notification settings.  Setup is simple, and directions are included in the first section of the handbook. We’d like to note that ParentSquare is new to our district and there may be hiccups; please reach out to your school’s main office should you have questions or problems.  For our new families, Powerschool, Parent Portal and Schoology information is also included.  We’d like to ask families, beginning August 2 and prior to August 16, to take 10 minutes to review and update their demographic, contact and permissions information in Powerschool.  This will help everything go as smoothly as possible when the portal is opened.

The second section of the guidebook outlines the rights and responsibilities of students and the standards for student conduct in the Wilton Public Schools. This section also provides information about district and board of education policies. A detailed listing of the board policies and regulations can be found on the district’s website:  www.wiltonps.org>BoardDocs.

It is important to note that this guidebook is not intended to be a complete directory of information concerning all of the Wilton Public Schools. Each school in the district maintains a student handbook that includes more specific information about rules and expectations for the students in that building.

Should you have any questions or seek additional information, please feel free to contact my assistant, Lucille DeNovio, at 203.762.3381 extension 8318 or denoviol@wiltonps.orgWe are all looking forward to an exciting and fun-filled school year, and I know our entire staff is eager to welcome your children.

Sincerely,

Kevin J. Smith, Ph.D.
