Middlebrook School is situated on the former farmland of the Middlebrook family, who came to the United States in 1636. The original building was constructed in 1962 as the high school and became a school for seventh and eighth graders in 1971. Middlebrook School welcomed sixth graders in 1992.

Classrooms were added in 1988 and 1993 to accommodate increasing enrollments. A major renovation and construction of thirty-six new classrooms were completed in 1998 to house the middle school students of Wilton, Connecticut.

The leadership team at the school includes a principal and three deans. This middle school is firmly grounded in teaming, interdisciplinary instruction, flexible block scheduling, and curriculum, all designed to meet the needs of the early adolescent. Our curriculum program includes a double program of language arts, mandatory world language, remedial reading, modified classes, multiple math offerings from sixth-grade math to eighth-grade geometry, developmental guidance, and mandatory fine and applied arts. Technology is integrated effectively into all areas of this curriculum with an emphasis on information literacy. In addition, we offer an extensive co-curricular program for our students.

Middlebrook School was awarded the Celebration of Excellence in 1996 for “Our Long Island Sound” multidisciplinary mini-magnet project created with a neighboring urban school district. In addition, we were honored in 1996 with the Governor and Stage Department of Education’s Summer Reading Award and an award for an Overall State Mastery Test improvement.

Connecticut School Counselors recognized our school counselors in 2000 for the excellent Career Day Program and again in 2001 for the exemplary Peer Mentor Program.

In addition to mastering a strong academic program, we expect each student to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Middlebrook School received the 2002 Governor’s Challenge to Citizenship Award. Our students appreciate the importance of service to others.

In 2011 Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education, announced that Middlebrook School was named a National Blue Ribbon School. Middlebrook is one of only 33 middle schools in the nation to earn this distinction for its overall academic excellence. The Blue Ribbon Schools award sets a standard of excellence for all schools striving for the highest level of achievement.
