Dear Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers:

On behalf of the Wilton Public Schools I write today to welcome you to the 2025-2026 school year. It’s hard to believe that students will be back in class in just another couple of weeks. I do hope you have been able to enjoy the warm weather and relax with family.

This letter and the accompanying handbook contain a great deal of information that will take some time to review. We’ve tried to include the most pertinent information and make it easily accessible.  While there are a great many details, most importantly, I want you to know that your children are in great hands! Our staff could not be more excited to welcome them back and kick off a new school year.  We provide the information below to help you be as informed as possible and to make the transition back to school as stress free as it can be.

Our mission is to inspire and prepare all students to contribute meaningfully to a globally interdependent society. In service to that end, we invest significant time focusing on creating a culture that prioritizes interpersonal connection and is inclusive and welcoming to all.  There is a special energy in the district at this time of the year as staff members prepare to welcome students and families back to school.  In the coming days you will receive many communications from the district as well as from our PTAs. They are strong partners and provide a vital connection between home and school. There may be times when you feel overwhelmed by the amount of communication and information you receive.   As a parent of multiple children in the district, I can certainly relate. I strongly encourage you to take the time and read through the information that is sent. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Ensuring that you receive information is a district priority. I would ask that all families take 10 minutes beginning 8/18 to login to PowerSchool and review demographic, contact and permission information. The information in PowerSchool feeds all our other software applications including Parent Square. Parent Square is the district’s primary tool for both routine and emergency communications.

Our Student and Family Handbook is divided into three sections:

Section One: General Information

Section Two: Notifications and Communication

Section Three: Students Rights and Responsibilities

In Section One I call your attention to the district calendar master calendar and the holiday calendar as well as key dates for back to school nights and open houses.

In Section Two you will find more detailed information about the district’s various digital systems as well as detailed information about ParentSquare, MySchoolBucks and school transportation.

Section Three provides families with copies of select board of education policies (the entire policy manual can be found under the Board of Education tab on our website. This section contains information on the district's cell phone-free school initiative and also the detailed student code of conduct for each school. We provide this in an effort to promote greater clarity around student behavioral expectations and the approach the district utilizes when responding to student misbehavior.

We look forward to a tremendous school year and celebrating with you the many accomplishments your children will enjoy this year.  Please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any questions or concerns. Please feel free to contact my assistant, Lucille DeNovio at 203.762.3381 extension 8318 or denoviol@wiltonps.org.

Sincerely,

Kevin J. Smith, Ph.D.
