How We Decide to Close or Delay School
- Weather monitoring usually starts the night before, and district officials track conditions closely.
- At 4:00 a.m., the Wilton Police Department is contacted for an update on road conditions.
- Area superintendents talk with a meteorologist to check the weather and road conditions across the region.
- Officials also look at how quickly roads can be cleared before making a decision.
- If possible, the final call is made by 5:00 a.m.
- This decision is based on the best guess of what conditions will be like over the next four to twelve hours.
- If weather, roads, or parking lots are unsafe, school will be closed.
- Families will be notified through ParentSquare.
- Updates will also be posted on the district website and shared with local TV and radio stations.

The district utilizes the option of a 1-hour, 2-hour or 3-hour delay. The decision to utilize a delayed opening schedule is based on the forecasted timing of a storm, and/or road conditions.

It is with the greatest reluctance that children are dismissed early because of weather conditions. However, in the event that an early dismissal is absolutely necessary, each family should have an emergency plan that their children thoroughly understand. All families should review their plans with their children and caregivers. A ParentSquare message will be sent and status posted on the district website.
